Architectural & Industrial Maintenance (AIM)
Coating Regulations
What is an Architectural Coating?
EPA defines Architectural Coatings as coatings that are recommended for field application to stationary structures and their appurtenances, to portable buildings, to pavement, or to curbs. Coatings applied in shop application or to non-stationary structures such as airplanes, ships, boats, railcars, automobiles, and adhesives are not considered Architectural Coatings for the purpose of the regulations.
Several states & counties have their own, more stringent AIM requirement. The map below shows states that have their own requirement or that have counties inside the state with a more stringent standard than the EPA.

Arizona (Maricopa County), California, Connecticut,
Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New
